Saigon summer ball 2014 – this Summer’s “hottest” night so far made from warm-hearted guests.

Great thanks to all of our wonderful guests who spent their Saturday night at the 6th Saigon Summer Ball on 7th June. Together with your support, we are pleased to let you know that the event beat all previous records. We will update more when we know the final figures. Whatever we raise it will help enormously, and as a guide, every ten thousand dollars raised can

  • help 100 young children from families living in difficulties to go to and stay in school for a whole year OR
  • provide bicycles for 100 children living more than 5km to school OR
  • support young people living in difficulties with a full university degree for four years (most likely as the first in their family to enter higher education).

This year’s event was honoured to welcome 385 guests who all turned on the glitz and glamour and came along to the five-star InterContinental Asiana Saigon’s Grand Ballroom for a wonderful night!

Together with Frasers Law Company as our Premier Partner and the support once again provided by Moët & Hennessy and Standard Chartered, we welcomed Etihad Airways as one of our key sponsors as well as a great number of in-kind sponsors and supporters. Thanks, too, to Alain Cany, the Chairman of SCC, who provided his invaluable advice and guidance.

The night was full of promise from the start with a Champagne reception followed by an outstanding dinner and more wonderful wines from Moët. Each table looked stunning with gorgeous fresh flowers supplied once more by Dalat Hasfarm and this created a feeling of genuine warmth and affection in the room itself which was highlighted by small spots of lights and artistic arrangements. We had high hopes for the Ball this year and we were not disappointed with everyone being there wanting to have a great night but also being there because they wanted to engage with SCC and help the children.

This year, we had six incredible items in the live auction with all of the items selling well and with some extraordinary prices paid for some extraordinary items with a five night stay in Baan Asan – Koh SAMUI Thailand (including flights for 2) being our top live auction item going for $ 12,200! There were two items which went for just $200 less including two nights at the Sentosa Capella 5-star resort and all hospitality to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Singapore courtesy of Standard Chartered Bank; The two business class return tickets to anywhere in the world from Etihad Airways also went for $12,000. Again combined with flights, we had a truly exceptional house in Queenstown, New Zealand given by anonymous donors which went to one lucky bidder for $10,000. Other items such as “Waterfall” a painting donated by Cuc Gallery and painted by Duong Thuy Lieu settled at $4,500 and an original signed Manchester City (2014’s English Premier League winners) went for $3000.

There were 29 marvellous items in the silent auction and some great bargains were had as well as some high scoring items too.

Joining with us this year, our Ball proudly presented legendary Vietnamese saxophonist Tran Manh Tuan and his gifted daughter as well as one of the top and talented divas of Vietnam – vocalist My Linh with their signature performances dedicated to our guests. Together with them, Joe Wrigley and The Jumping Jacks filled the dance floor and kept people there for more than 2 hours. After that, our DJ Justin Murta took on the job and many guests still celebrated and enjoyed their good times until 2 am!

We would like to take this chance to thank our enthusiastic volunteers especially Catherine Guo and Nancy and the Saigon Summer Ball Committee led again this year by Jennifer Howell and to our very own staff here at SCC who did an outstanding job.  We witnessed a successful ending this year to welcome an even more fantastic Ball in 2015. We look forward to seeing all our guests again next year and some have already put the date in their diaries! If you didn’t come this year – make sure to come next year and we look forward to seeing you there for a night of good fun, beautiful hearts and a great cause!
