A NEW BICYCLE FOR A NEW SCHOOL-YEAR
At the beginning of December, when SCC arrived at Tieu Can, Tra Vinh Province to deliver 43 bicycles to disadvantaged children, there was much excitement in the air.
Nguyễn Thị Hiếu Hương studies in the province in grade 6 at Hùng Hoà School. She shared: “Every day I had to leave home at 6am to walk to school. I love to go to school. This is my first bicycle ever, I am so happy!”
The mother of Phước Thuận, a student who also studies in the province in grade 4 at Hiếu Tử School, emotionally revealed: “We were so excited and nervous that we could not sleep at all last night. Thuan started to ask me to go and pick up his new bicycle since noontime. Thank you all so much.”
The new school-year started, and many students like Hương and Thuận are still having to walk extremely long distances to get to school every day. They are in real need of help to ease their pursuit of education, to give them a bit more time to sleep at night after a long day of studying hard and supporting their families, to stop them from walking alone on the streets in the early morning and late evenings. You can help bring happiness to 110 students in the new school year by giving them a bicycle! Please find more information about the cause here: https://www.justgiving.com/BICYCLE2015
MORE THAN A MEETING
To better support students in SCC’s Child Development Programme, in addition to financial support, SCC organizes 2 meetings per year in, in April and November, in the provinces of Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Tien Giang and HCMC.
At the HCMC meeting on November 8th, 2015, more than 200 students attended the “Positioning yourself” seminar presented by Prof. Huỳnh Văn Thông – Head of Journalism Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Attendees explored how to identify their positions, responsibilities, knowledge, attitude and skills for success. Additionally, group games brought everyone together, creating a strong connection among students who are all striving to better their lives through education.
On November 4 2015, at the Hall of Friendship Organizations Union of Dong Nai, an event was held to give SCC scholarships to students from Dong Nai province. This year, they were happy to welcome Ms. Diana Simone Wells – a member of SCC Board of Trustees.
Ms. Diana Wells awarded scholarships
Ms. Diana Wells closed the meeting with a short speech conveying her appreciation to the students’ families for supporting and striving together with the students, and she express her hope that those students will keep their determination to succeed and not disappoint their families.
