On the 7th of November, members of staff from ANZ Bank attended the opening ceremony of a new kindergarten in Long My, Hau Giang Province, and visited another Primary School building project as part of Project 3E.
Tra Long Kindergarten based in Long My was the only one available to the young students in the surrounding community. To accommodate for the increasing demand of educational facilities, two satellite sites were constructed.
From 1997 until now, the location of one of Tra Long Kindergarten’s satellite schools was built thanks to the generous land donation of an anonymous sponsor. However, due to the size of the land donated, only one small temporary classroom was able to be constructed which had to accommodate for 22 children between 4-5 years old.

After 18 years, despite continued repairs, the school facilities were still not adequate and potentially dangerous for the children. The conditions of the toilets were unhealthy and the structure of the building was not safe, especially during stormy weather. During the rainy season, the school yard became filled with mud, and as the roof was made of zinc, it became very difficult for the children to concentrate due to the amount of noise the rain made. During the dry season, the building became very hot and the conditions were not suitable or safe for a child to learn.
After a careful investigation, SCC and ANZ decided that the best option would be to renovate and enlarge the main site of the Tra Long Kindergarten. This would mean the children would not have to rely on the satellite facility. After 3.5 months of construction, everybody including ANZ staff, local governments, teachers, students happily attended the school opening ceremony of 7/11/2015.
The toilet facilities are now inside the classroom to help teachers look after all the kids all the time. Furthermore, the teachers are going to teach the children the importance of being hygiene. On the left is the female toilet, the male toilet on the right and on the middle is the teacher toilet.

This is the second year in a row ANZ and SCC have been cooperating together as part of the Project 3E. This project has resulted in benefiting hundreds of students from Long My ward, Hau Giang province. Within 2 years, together we have already built 7 new schools including kindergartens and primary schools: given 300 scholarships for high school students, and 56 laptops to support student’s studying. In addition, we have been able to organize volunteering days, training, and visits to the children’s families to gain more insights into their lives.

During the school opening ceremony, there were the presence of Mr. Hai Thanh Bui, Chief of Operation ANZ Bank Vietnam and Ms. Ha, Thu Pham, Country Operation Risk Manager of ANZ Bank Vietnam, as well as staff from different branches and departments of the company. In addition to attending this opening ceremony of this kindergarten, ANZ staff also went to visit another school building project as part of the Project 3E. These trips provide the opportunity for employees of different branches of ANZ to work together as well as the chance to learn about the great work ANZ does in collaboration with SCC.
A new school now gives the local children the suitable facilities for a child to learn and have a brighter future. A member of the ANZ team, in talking about what he gained from the trip, stated: “If I have the chance, I would like to see more of Vietnam so I can share my heart to the children who need it."
