The Ninth Annual Cyclo Challenge:
“More FUN than ever before!”

Saigon Children’s Charity’s 9th annual Cyclo Challenge ended successfully with the participation of 51 racing teams from various businesses, schools, consulates and other organisations in Ho Chi Minh City and the generous support of numerous sponsors, spectators and volunteers.

Twenty cyclos, iconic images of Vietnam, were specially adapted and brightly decorated with each team’s corporate logos which came in a myriad of shapes and colours. All the teams came together at Taipei School in the middle of Phu My Hung for a day of great fun and tough challenges.

The strongest racers on the day from Duxton Hotel won the first prize and they will keep the prestigious Saigon Cyclo Challenge Trophy for one year.  The teams from Caravelle Hotel and HSBC Bank VN Ltd finished second and third, respectively. The most beautiful cyclo this year belonged to FV Hospital, with the best cheerleader award going to FV Hospital and the award for the best banner won by Schenker.
The race day exceeded even the organiser’s and the spectators’ expectations, giving a big boost to team spirits and developing stronger bonds among the teams and their supporters with ingenious games and exhilarating rhythms from the bands.

Saigon Children’s Charity, the host and beneficiary of the event, will allocate the funds raised during the day across their educational projects; these include the provision of monthly school scholarships to more than 3,000 children as well as building schools and classrooms in rural areas.

The 9th successive race, which ended with congratulations to all who participated, promises even more chances for disadvantaged children to go to school and to help them and their families to break out of poverty forever.

A tired but happy Director of SCC, Paul Finnis, said:  “We are very lucky to have so many wonderful and committed supporters here in Vietnam and around the world. It has been a great opportunity for all of us to put away our personal worries for a day and think, instead, about the plight of others. I cannot thank everyone enough for all they have done today.”
