More about the project
Tien Giang province
is in the north of Mekong Delta. The total area is
2,239 square kilometers with a population of 1,673,000.
My Tho is the provincial capital of Tien Giang, 72
km from Ho Chi Minh City, approximately 2 hours drive.
Saigon Children’s Charity (SCC) has agreed with
the People’s Committee of Tien Giang to develop
a Centre for Hearing-Impaired Children.
The current centre
for deaf children in Tien Giang locates in a Pagoda
where it has been lodged temporarily since 1996. SCC
has agreed to develop this centre with more facilities
to help these disabled children.
The centre will provide
a service for testing of children’s hearing, the
diagnosis of their hearing impairment, the implementation
of remedial measures and for the education and training
of children and their parents. The centre will become
the focus for early intervention – the diagnosis
and treatment of pre-school aged children – for
the whole province.
This process will
take many years to fulfil so it is important to provide
training and care for older children. Therefore the
school will provide a standard education and develop
vocational training for the older students. As a part
of the vocational training, the school will set up and
develop relationships with local employers who are willing
to employ deaf people and willing to get involved in
their training. |
