Dear Volunteer,
Thank you for your interest in helping Saigon
Children's Charity. Volunteers have contributed enormously
to the success of SCC by bringing specific talents and skills
to Vietnam. Some have worked directly with the children and
others have assisted in the management of the charity.
Our need for volunteers
changes from time to time – at the moment
we are looking for volunteers to help with English language
teaching at our school in Ho Chi Minh City. Ideally we need
professional teachers or those with a qualification in teaching
English but if you are a native English speaker (or fully
fluent) then we would like to hear from you. We do have limited
opportunities – we really only need 5 working at the
school at any one time – so please do contact us and
see if we have any spaces.
Ideally volunteers will
be able to offer us a few hours a week for a minimum of a
month – this is because, as a school, we like to offer
the children as much consistency as possible and to keep disruption
down to a minimum too. As a volunteer we believe that you
will find this more rewarding too as you will create friendships
with the children and memories that we expect will last forever.
Occasionally we need volunteers
to help us in the office with various projects. For example
this might be helping to organise a photographic exhibition,
our world famous Cyclo Challenge or choosing and marketing
our Christmas cards. Again this varies depending on the time
of year but you will find a happy, friendly and unique working
environment which we know you’ll enjoy!
In addition we are always
interested in hearing from people with special skills such
as audiologists and speech therapists. Our art and photography
projects began as the result of help from dedicated and dynamic
volunteers. Of course people who can also speak Vietnamese
can be particularly useful and we are interested in hearing
from Vietnamese speakers from Vietnam and abroad.
Currently we are unable
to accommodate volunteers or pay a living or travel allowance
although we can offer plenty of advice.
We draw little distinction
between volunteers and salaried staff in the sense that we
expect of everyone working for SCC, salaried or not, commitment,
consideration and understanding. Volunteering for SCC should
not be seen simply as a casual holiday activity but an unpaid
commitment to the children we support and who so badly need
our help.
If you feel that you would
like to volunteer or that you have a skill that could be of
value to us then please complete our application
form. We look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Paul Finnis
