Message from Director

Dear SCC Supporters and Friends,

What a fantastic year 2015 has been for SCC! We have been able to reach out to more and more disadvantaged children, continuing our mission to eliminate poverty through supporting their education. This has only been possible thanks to the wonderfully generous support from all of you, whether as donors, volunteers who give their time, by simply liking us on Facebook, joining a fundraising campaign, or sponsoring one of our children.  I cannot thank all of you enough for your continued interest and support in SCC and the work we do.

A great example of this was seen in the highly successful Charity Cycle Adventure, which took place on 27-29 November.  I was lucky enough to be able to join 25 other adventurous cyclists who took on the challenge of cycling almost 300km through the mountainous terrain of central Vietnam, with a team fundraising target of $50,000.  I am delighted to say that we have surpassed this target, so far reaching an incredible $51,257.66.  A huge thank you to all the hero riders and to all our champion sponsors! What a tremendous team effort!

Christmas is almost upon us. For seasonal card buyers, please see our collection of wonderful Christmas and Tet cards designed by the children we support.  In addition, SCC is also introducing our own Charitable Gifts programme this year.  Many children we support struggle to get access to education as their schools are simply too far away.  You can help to change this by make a contribution to a brand new bicycle, and then dedicating the gift to a loved one this Christmas or New Year. Please visit the link below to find out more.

As 2015 ends, we are already looking ahead to the exciting events of 2016. On Saturday 19th of March, we will be holding the 16th annual Saigon Cyclo Challenge at Celadon City. We are currently inviting corporate teams and sponsors to take part in this unique competition of Cyclo Racing, Team Challenges, and Family Entertainment. Last year, Pizza Hut were crowned champions, narrowly pipping Crown at the post. Will they retain their title for the second year running, or do you think your own team is up for the challenge?

Another provisional date for the diary is Saturday 4thJune, when we will be holding our annual evening of glitz and glamour, the 8thSaigon Summer Ball.

It is already looking to be a busy and exciting year ahead, and we cannot wait to get started.  I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Finally some very sad news: Chris Simpson, known to many of the team here, passed away suddenly in the UK last week. Chris and his wife Marianne have been very long-term friends and supporters of SCC and in particular of our WWO programme supporting children with disabilities. Our sincerest condolences go to Marianne and her family, who, in memory of Chris, are kindly asking for any donations to go to support SCC, and WWO in particular. Should you wish to donate, their JustGiving page is at: https://www.justgiving.com/csimpson1952/
RIP Chris Simpson: much missed but never forgotten.
