Happy New Year 2012
2012 will see us move from the Year of the Cat (Rabbit in China) to the only legendary sign – the sign of the Dragon in 2012. The Year of the Dragon is the mightiest of all and is seen as an auspicious time. Specifically in 2012 it will be the year of the Water Dragon which appears every 60 years.
So we will move from a year highlighted as being gracious, kind and compassionate to a year described as vigorous, strong, self-assured and noble.
Water calms the Dragon’s fire and, as a result, Water Dragons are able to see things from other points of view. They don’t have the need to always be right and their decisions are usually better as they allow others to become involved. A good lesson for all of us there I think!
But - while Dragons frequently help others, rarely will they ask for help. This is the case with so many of the people that SCC supports and we have been working hard in 2011 to ensure that every child and family that benefits from the support of SCC is made to feel positively about that acceptance of help. One aspect of this will see us adapting how we provide the scholarships from next year to ensure that 1) scholarships provide what families need – they will be given a number of options to choose from - and 2) that they receive those at a time and in a way that suits them best.
We have spent the year talking to our schools, partners and to the children and their families in order to ensure that SCC is in touch with the changing needs of those we support. But whatever we do or don’t do we will make sure that the gifts that, with your help, we are able to bring them are helpful and help to bring the sort of change in their lives that we all wish for.
It is SCC’s 20th year of operation next year. We won’t have time to stop and properly celebrate but we promise, in this anniversary Year of the Dragon, to redouble our efforts and bring strength to the people who need that the most. Thank you to everyone reading this for your support of SCC and the children. I can only promise you that we will be asking even more from you and to continue to help us.
Wishing you all a very Happy 2012!
Chúc mừng năm mới 2012!
