Students of saigonchildren’s Child Development Scholarship Program successfully organized a Fun Fair at Sông Ray high school in Đồng Nai on February 24. The theme of the fair this year was “For you, for me, and for tomorrow”.
In total, 213 students who are saigonchildren beneficiaries participated in the event. 35 of them are students currently studying in universities and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City, Bình Dương, Tiền Giang, Đồng Nai and Trà Vinh. The rest are students from primary school to high school level in the area of Đồng Nai.
At this event, saigonchildren staff joined to supervise the organizers and coordinators of the fair, who were the university and college students. It was a great opportunity for them to come together and work on an event which helps them to develop their soft skills, such as leadership, event-planning, communication, and teamwork.
The team is working together to prepare for the event
For the younger students, they had a day full of laughter and everyone seemed to have new friends after the event. They were divided into small groups of 8-10 and had to go to different stations to complete the challenges. Many of them were shy at first but they became more open after decorating the team flags together and actively participated in all team challenges. Snack and fruits were also prepared to refuel the kids after hours of running and sweating in the sun.
The children were very active to participate all the team challenges
“We all here today come from similar backgrounds and have been receiving tremendous help from saigonchildren for years. When my fellow saigonchildren friends and I were in high school, we did not get to participate in any event like this. We were very shy and had low self-esteem. Things started to change as soon as we got to the universities. The new dynamic environment made us want to change into the more active people and have confidence in ourselves. That is one of the reasons why we would like to organize such event for all of you today so you could have the opportunity to play, become more sociable and boost your self esteem.” – Mai Minh Nhật, a saigonchildren student in the organizing team.
On this occasion, the students in the organizing team also spent their funds raised from their previous projects to buy presents for the students in Đồng Nai. For saigonchildren, it was simply beautiful to see how our beneficiaries come together and take care of each other as a family.
