On June 3rd, saigonchildren officially started building Thanh Hoa 2 Primary school in Hau Giang province, after three months of preparation.
The school is co-funded by generous donors from the cocktail reception ‘Buy a brick, build a school’ in Singapore; Credit Suisse Singapore, and Ms. Tsanh My Linh. Just some months ago, the school was in serious disrepair, affecting the activities of teachers and students. On heavy rainy days, the floor becomes slippery and dangerous. In addition, the number of toilets and sinks did not meet the minimum needs of children and teachers. Construction of Thanh Hoa 2 primary school is expected to last for 5 months starting from June to November of 2019.
The columns and beams are broken and threaten the safety of the building
The wooden door and window frames are decayed
The walls are rotten and mouldy, affecting the student’s health
The toilet is uncomfortable for the children, especially on rainy days
By collaborating with kind donors and local authorities, saigonchildren will help provide a much-needed improvement to the inadequate learning environment of the disadvantaged students at Hamlet 1 Satellite Site of Thanh Hoa 2 Primary School.
90 children aged 6 – 11 during the 2018-2019 academic year and 80-100 students each year thereafter will benefit directly from funding provided by Credit Suisse, the Singapore event, and Ms Tsanh My Linh.
Being a longstanding programme of saigonchildren, the School Building and Learning Environments Programme aims to construct or renovate kindergartens and primary schools, in order to bring a safe and effective learning environment to children in the most disadvantaged areas of Vietnam. Since 1992 our School Building Programme has built 198 schools, 534 classrooms and benefited 15,500 students across Vietnam.
