On August 30th, representatives of the saigonchildren and Thăng Long school took students to Saigontourist Hospitality College on a vocational study tour as a part of our Getting Ready For Work Programme. This program is one of saigonchildren’s four programs that gives young adults with difficult circumstances the opportunity to develop themselves and integrate into work and social life.
The students going on this trip range between ages 18 to 20, coming from challenging backgrounds which do not allow them to pursue higher education after high school. Two of these students had been working part time in cafes, however wish to be trained professionally, get a vocational graduate diploma and find a permanent job for a more secured life. The students expressed their interest in bartending, pastry, restaurant management and Culinary Arts including Asian and European cuisines.
They found it very exciting to watch the course instructors at Saigontourist Hospitality College performing cooking and bartending skills. In addition, they had the opportunity to dress up in uniforms and received practical training sessions with the instructors. This visit gives the students a better insight into the industry, a taste of the jobs in reality and allows them to test their choice of career path.
