SCHOOLS IN 2011
SCC and Sport Marketing Software jointly inaugurate a new kindergarten in Tien Giang.
Like weather everywhere nowadays, Vietnam’s climate is difficult to predict, and storms and floods frequently cause delays to our school-building programme. However, SCC is happy to announce that our school- and kindergarten building has run according to plan in the fourth quarter of 2011, and we managed to conduct many activities in remote, rural areas to improve the quality of education and children’s lives there.
For example, we finished four kindergartens in Tien Giang and Tra Vinh, and we always do what we can to get our new schools open as soon as possible. We also started the construction of two new kindergartens in Tra Vinh and Dong Nai, and these are expected to open in the autumn. This thrills both us and the local community as it allows more children to benefit from access to a safe and supportive learning environment.
We do not only have classrooms and toilets on our minds – as schools consist of so many different parts and so we also constructed two schoolyards and four outdoor play-areas combined with a selection of toys in kindergartens in Tien Giang and Tay Ninh. A kindergarten became an extensive support system for families when it was fitted with kitchen and water facilities to ensure that the children can eat lunch there to ease parents’ daily time pressures and ensure the children get at least one good nutritious meal each day too.
To build a school is not easy but it is even more difficult to create a safe environment which is genuinely conducive to good education and we are increasingly focusing on building not just schools, but the right kind of schools.
Another part of our ‘winter’ activities came from the great support we received from companies who share our mission. For example, 39 representatives from Credit Suisse in Singapore undertook a Challenge Day in Tra Vinh, a long journey away from Singapore! Hieu Tu A Primary School was built by SCC in 2007 and was very much in need of some TLC!
After meeting the school’s teachers and children and local authorize the Credit Suisse team went to work and split into groups who painted walls, planted trees or cleaned classrooms. Even after becoming both dirty and tired from the activities, the team still had the energy to hold a short workshop about what one of Singapore’s specialty subjects at the moment - protecting and sustaining the environment.
We sincerely thank all our sponsors and friends for dedicating their time and efforts to provide brighter futures to our children in 2011.
