British
Consul General opens new School
We were delighted
to open a brand new three-classroom primary school in
Tay Ninh on 7 September. Ms Debbie Clarke, British Consul
General attended a school opening ceremony marking the
inauguration of this new school and the beginning of
a new school year in Vietnam. The school, which has
80 girls and boys aged 6-12 was sponsored by the German
foundation, Children For a Better World. One quarter
of the cost of construction was paid by the People's
Committee of Tay Ninh province. Mr Paul Cleves, Director
of Saigon Children's Charity explained 'We always require
a financial contribution from our partners as this way
we know the school is really needed and not just a case
of foreigners building unneeded edifices. It also means
that our funds go further.' Saigon Children's Charity
has worked closely with the authorities of Tay Ninh
for the past three years and also provides scholarships
to 700 children in this poor and remote corner of Vietnam.
