I live in Dist. 4 with my parents. Neither of them have a decent job, they just sell things on the pavement. From this, we do not have a stable income for the family. I was not able to complete my education, as I needed to earn money for the family, so I left school to work as a waiter in a cafe. I’ve worked as a waiter for seven years, with no chance of promotion, just changing between different coffee shops.
There was a time when I was so confused as to what to do next and how to start. Then, my father brought me a saigonchildren leaflet, which had many vocational courses to choose. I chose to join the baking class as I believed it’s good for me to develop in the future.
All the lessons are so interesting, and I am eager to get to class and make delicious cakes. However, it can be so challenging at times that sometimes I do a step over and over but still fail. Another challenge that has arose during exams, is that I do not have the money to buy materials to make a cake, practice, and take the exam. Without saigonchildren’s support, I could not have gotten past those difficulties and to continue down this career path.
Now, I have become an assistant baker in Baguette Bakery, and my salary is 4.1 mil VND/month. At school, I only learned basic baking techniques and types of bread. Now that I’m actually working in a bakery, I realized that there are many things I need to keep learning. I will never give up, and I now will try to become a professional baker. I believe I will have a better life if I continue to achieve my goals.
I would send my deepest gratitude to all sponsors and to saigonchildren for providing such meaningful courses, orientations. and career opportunities to disadvantaged people like me. I also want to encourage all other students who are studying with saigonchildren, if you trust yourself and your choice, you will definitely be successful one day.
