4th Saigon Summer Ball – a summerly success!
On 1st June 2012, more than 380 stylish guests came together in the Sheraton’s Grand Ballroom to celebrate and have fun but also to support Saigon Children’s Charity.
Now in its fourth year and already an established event in Saigon’s social calendar, guests once again brought a touch of glamour to this prestigious annual event. Atmospheric candle-lights, elaborate flower arrangements and twinkling star-decorations transported guests from Saigon’s sporadic chaos into an evening of delight, ease and style. BMW Euro Auto and Moët Hennessy were head-lining sponsors this year with supporting sponsors Dalat Hasfarm, Indochina, Classic Fine Foods among others joining us yet again.
Popular, as always, were the evening’s fundraising activities. The Live Auction featured two beautifully restored Hondas - a roaring 67 ‘for him’ and a petite Little Cub ‘for her’ and took an exciting twist when one winner, Mr. Landon Carnie from RMIT, successfully bid for one of the bikes and then generously immediately re-donated the bike to be auctioned again!
This year’s Silent Auction saw eager bidding wars break out for exclusive items such as luxury hotel packages, VIP dining and other treats - most notably, a Manchester United-signed football, a limited edition Jehan Chan print and a unique 32-arm mirror!
Another crowd-drawing competition was The Price is Rice where guests lined up to guess the weight of a rice bowl for the chance to win a VIP dinner for 8 people in Strata Restaurant. With a guess of 6.010g, the lucky winner was Ms Ai Van!
Whilst the evening is designed to be a fantastic night out, its underlying purpose is to fundraise for the children and programmes run and supported by Saigon Children’s Charity.
To raise awareness of our scholarship programme, we introduced a once-only fundraiser called “Project 88”. With each golden ball purchased representing two children in school for a month, the aim was to raise enough for 88 children in school for a whole year. We reached 75% of our project goal and would like to thank every individual guest for their participation in this project.
After hours of delicious dinners and very diverse dance moves to Juram and DJ Justin Murta, we are extremely happy to report that guests raised an astounding net total of 42.682 USD!
The funds from 2011 enabled us to support 400 children to return to school – almost one child for each guest joining the Ball! The funds from 2010 enabled us to build a kindergarten in the rural province of Tra Vinh that supports 105 children aged 3-5 every year. We guarantee that the funds from this year's event will be also put to good, immediate use where it is most needed.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of our sponsors, guests, partners and friends who made Saigon Summer Ball 2012 such a success! Thank you!
