Poverty is a major factor in non attendance or poor attendance at school, often causing students to drop out early. This lack of education perpetuates the cycle of poverty into which these children were born. Our goal is to ensure that all children excluded from school or whose education is jeopardised by poverty can attend school untroubled by financial concerns or by worries about the cost of education to their families.
In order to reach this goal, we give each child in our scholarship scheme 10kg of rice each month of the school year, a uniform and all the textbooks, notebooks and pens they need.
We also give extra help in the event of a crisis or special need, such as illness or the death of a parent, wheelchairs, reading glasses, tuition fees for extra courses – in fact whatever we and they agree they need to ensure that they can maintain their schooling and learn to their full potential.

Vocational |
Our vocational training scholarships involve help not just with college fees but also with things like transport in cases where the local vocational college is many miles from their home or with lodging so that if the college is too far away for a daily commute, the students can stay in a dormitory near the school. As with our other scholarships, each sponsor will be linked to a specific student and sponsors will be kept updated about their progress.

University/College |
University fees, though normally a few hundred dollars a year, would be completely out of the question for these young people without the help of our scholarship programme. These scholarships are available only to young people who have previously received a school scholarship from SCC. Each sponsor is linked to a specific student (or students); will be sent a profile of the student(s) concerned and will be kept updated about their progress. |
