After 3 years of inaugurating a new classroom and toilet at Tan Phuoc Hung primary school, on March 10th, Zwilling and saigonchildren have returned and together joined the opening ceremony of the Computer Room project at Tan Phuoc Hung primary school, Hau Giang province, where saigonchildren has been successfully working with the local authorities for many years to improve the situation for the children here. Tan Phuoc Hung is one of the more impoverished communities in District Phung Hiep, with poor infrastructure, earnings below the district’s average, many living in financial hardship, and high poverty rates, all of which, to some extent, affects the ability to mobilise resources for education. The number of students living in poverty is 117, 18.6% out of the school’s 630 students. The school has also actively mobilised the interest of organisations and local authorities to continue supporting the children over the years.
However, even with all the mobilising efforts in the past years, there is still no complete solution for the shortage of teaching supplies in the commune – due to the limited budget of the locality, there is a shortage of computers which have greatly affected the school’s ability to teach Information Technology. Lack of skills in information technology also partly makes it difficult for organising online teaching and learning during social distancing because of the pandemic.
“A few years ago, we painted the walls of the classroom over there together for the children. Thank you to the school and the local leadership for continuing to build more classrooms, so that the children can continue to learn, be inspired, and realise their dreams.” – Mr. Markus Thuere, representative of Zwilling shared.
During the ceremony, 150 children in the scholarship programme also received gifts from sponsors, as well as 15 students with difficult circumstances, living far from school, being given new bicycles.
“My house is more than ten kilometres from the school, and my father used to take me to school every day. Now that I have a new one, I will learn to ride it by myself to school. I love this bicycle!” – Vinh Loan, grade 5 at Tan Phuoc Hung primary school.
Saigonchildren are also particularly thankful to the team from Zwilling for their commitment to making life better for children in Vietnam. Building a successful partnership for social impact is a good thing that we appreciate and always want to share with the community about these meaningful activities.
