For a long time, I worked unstable jobs, such as a security guard, shipper and other similar low-wage positions just to make ends meet. My older brother is unemployed, and my family’s main income depends on the little money my father earns by assembling electronic boards. Life has continued to prove challenging, particularly when my mother was diagnosed with cancer, and we needed to find a lot of money to pay for her treatment. It seems like we have borrowed money from everyone and anyone possible.
I applied to work for the Xuan Vuong company as an air conditioner mechanic. The company’s director knew about my situation, and she introduced me to the saigonchildren vocational courses. I was accepted onto the course and saigonchildren supported me with the cost of tuition fees and lunch. Working while studying requires a lot of effort to keep both in balance. Sometimes, I need to work far from home and then rush back to make it to class in time. Sometimes, my employer pays my salary late, which leads to more financial difficulties. However, my teacher and Ms Thuy always encourage and support me so I complete my course with good results.

At present, I work as an assistant mechanic, and my job is becoming more stable with a higher income as I gain more knowledge and experience from the vocational course. I’m trying to become a professional at repairing air conditioners by registering in a college to study more about this field. I continue to work and study to afford the course fees and my daily life expenses, as well as helping my family.

I am thankful that I met Ms Thuy and Mr Toan. They have remained by my side to encourage and support me during my studies at Hung Vuong school. This chance has opened the door to a brighter future for me.
