1. Give transportations for hard-working students:

Nhu is the youngest child in a family of three children. Because of difficulties, Nhu’s parents cannot afford her living expenses at school regularly. Sometimes Nhu has to eat instant noodles or bread because of a money shortage. Nhu’s family lives in a 72m2 house, which is old and leaky when it rains. They also have borrowed 10 million VND to pay for Nhu’s tuition fees with a monthly salary of 100,000 VND. Nhu’s mother receives a monthly allowance of 405,000 VND as a dioxin victim. The valuable assets include an old TV, an old 50cc motorbike and an old small fridge. Nhu’s does not have any means of transport. She hopes to get at least a bike to travel to school and to the workplace. So we decided to make her dream come true by giving her a second-hand motorbike in order to encourage this hard-working but unprivileged girl.

Also in this quarter, 2 bicycles and 2 other second-hand motorbike is provided for other effortful students in HCM city area.

2. Quarterly Rice Delivery in Can Gio, Tra Vinh and Tien Giang:

Going through 3 districts; Can Gio, Tra Vinh and Tien Giang. This is to encourage the children, as well as their parents, to continue on their education path, in the first quarter of 2019, Saigonchildren provided 17,520kg of rice to 496 disadvantaged students with a total 200,817,750 VND. This is a quarterly activity for children in some difficult areas of Saigonchildren’s Child development scholarship Programme.

3. Cathay Pacific launched the ‘I Can Fly’ program:

On the last week of April, Hong Kong’s home airline Cathay Pacific, launched the Vietnam chapter of its ‘I Can Fly’, a programme giving underprivileged children from around Ho Chi Minh City a unique educational experience that provides both valuable insights into the world of aviation and helps with their personal development.

The 10 students from Thang Long School of English and Vocational Education spent 2 days, from April 20th to April 21st, on a guided tour of Tan Son Nhat International Airport. This is where there were various careers offered for aspiring aviators that were discussed and presented; with everyone from chefs to pilots taking the time to talk to the children about how they can kickstart their careers in one of the world’s most dynamic industries.

2019 marked the first time that ‘I Can Fly’ has taken place in Vietnam. The programme was run in conjunction with Saigon Children’s Charity CIO.
