The following inspiring story is about Quach Tieu Nhat who overcame the barriers facing him, in order to fulfill his passion.
From a young age, Nhat’s father was not present in his life, and when he got older, his mother also sadly left him to go to Binh Dinh to live with her new husband. Since then, Nhat has lived with his cousin in Daklak. In 2015, with nobody left for him to financially rely on, Nhat dropped out of school and moved to the city to find a job. This was the start of a series of dramatic changes in Nhat’s life.

In 2016, Nhat was taken in by a shelter who provided him with a bed every night. In the mornings, he worked at a coffee shop, while studying at a Continuing Education Center in District 1 in the evenings. After graduating from 9th grade in May 2018, he could no longer cover his food costs as well as school fees. He had to stop studying and decided to undertake vocational training instead so as to still have an income.

In September 2018, Nhat signed up to Saigonchildren’s ‘Vocational & Skills Training Programme’, allowing him to attend a Bartending class at Saigontourist’s Middle School of Tourism and Hospitality. Nhat was determined to develop his skills in bartending, in order to find employment and a stable income for his future.

After Graduating in January 2019, Nhat applied to become a bartender at ‘Joy Coffee’ (32B Nguyen Thi Minh Khai district 1), in March 2019, where he earnt a salary of 4.5 million VND per month. Recently, he has started a new job at Bar Racha Room (No. 20 Mac Thi Buoi, District 1), with a starting salary of 4.5 million VND per month. Hopefully, with training from a professional environment and enough hard work, Nhat will quickly become confident in his skills; developing himself further as he travels on the path that he has chosen.
