Hòa’s Story: Proving it’s Never Too Late

date_range2023-09-22

After two years of taking a break from schooling, it is time for Hòa to come back and complete that journey…

Hòa was born into a Nùng-ethnic family with three sisters. Her mother was the primary provider for the family and took care of her daughters’ education. Unfortunately, due to a decline in her health, she has passed away from bronchitis. Hòa’s eldest sister, who had left school to help support their mother, also drifted away from home and lost contact with her for years.

These tragedies made Hòa have no choice but to enter the workforce to make ends meet. Previously, she assisted her sister by shelling cashews after school. Upon graduating from high school, she moved to Hồ Chí Minh City in search of better job opportunities, leaving her youngest sister, who faced learning difficulties, with their father in their hometown.

Struggling to survive day by day, an idea struck her. She realised she couldn’t let her life continue in such uncertainty, stuck in unstable manual labour jobs forever. Consequently, after two years of working, she resolved to return to education. Her goal was to obtain a degree and acquire academic qualifications that would secure a better future and enable her to support her family.

It was undoubtedly challenging for Hòa to relearn all the necessary knowledge after such a long break. However, with tireless effort, she secured admission to the College of Foreign Economic Relations to pursue a degree in Corporate Finance. Hòa mentions that this college offers reasonable tuition fees and provides favourable academic training relevant to calculations and numbers.

Hòa aspires to graduate ahead of schedule with an excellent certificate. This achievement would allow her to enter the job market, transition to a university curriculum, and improve her language and soft skills to meet professional requirements. Even though she thinks there isn’t much to be proud of yet, considering this as just the first step in restarting her journey, she finds inspiration in the quote, “It’s never too late to begin anew”. Saigonchildren believes she will continue to strive forward, embrace challenges, and accomplish her plans in the near future.
