One morning, the saigonchildren team unexpectedly learnt about Đ.’s situation and the challenges his family was facing. After completing the necessary verification process, Đ. was accepted into our Anh Chi Em initiative to receive support in continuing his education.
Đ. is currently a third-year student at Nông Lâm University. He has an excellent academic record and is recognised as an outstanding student by his faculty. Living and studying far from home, he is based in the city while his mum and grandma remain in their hometown in Bình Thuận. Throughout his university years, his mum has supported him by selling lottery tickets and doing farm labour. Despite their limited means, she also took out a loan under the local poverty support programme to buy him a laptop for his studies.
Life has never been easy for Đ.’s family, and things became even more difficult recently when his mum was diagnosed with an kidney tumour. Upon hearing the news, Đ. considered putting his studies on hold to care for her. However, the biggest obstacle remains financial, he would need to work to afford continuing his education.
With only one year left until graduation, saigonchildren recognised that without timely and adequate support, Đ. might have to pause his studies, or worse, may never return to university. That would mean three years of hard work lost.
Given the situation and Đ.’s determination to complete his education and find stable employment to support his family, he has been selected as a beneficiary of saigonchildren’s scholarship programme. His support comes from the Anh Chi Em fund, which encourages monthly donations to provide urgent support to children and caregivers in crisis, where timely help can make a significant difference in their lives and futures.
In his final year, Đ. will receive assistance covering tuition fees for his remaining 28 credits, one year of dormitory accommodation, and a monthly stipend for food and basic living expenses. This support aims to give Đ. the stability and motivation he needs to complete his university journey.
