To celebrate the start of the summer break, saigonchildren organised a special trip to the historic Củ Chi Tunnels for 150 students who achieved high academic results in the last school year. These students came from various provinces and education levels across all areas where our scholarship programme operates. This outing was a small gift of encouragement and recognition for their tireless efforts throughout the year.
The Củ Chi Tunnels are not only a well-known historical site but also a powerful symbol of the patriotism and resilience of the Vietnamese people during the American War in Vietnam. As the students watched documentary footage, studied scale models, offered incense in remembrance of fallen soldiers, and stepped into the vast underground tunnel network – a remarkable invention of past generations – many shared that the experience gave them a much deeper understanding and appreciation than they had ever gained from textbooks alone.
“I really enjoyed this trip. Although my legs got a bit tired from walking between the different areas, it was totally worth it. Seeing the scenes that recreated our nation’s heroic history was incredibly moving. We also got to play team-building games and even received small gifts from the organisers to take home.” Said Hân, a 8th-grader.
More than just financial support, saigonchildren’s scholarship programme is committed to the holistic development of each student both academically, socially, and emotionally. Trips like this provide valuable opportunities for them to explore regions they’ve never visited before, broaden their horizons, and strengthen their motivation to pursue education and build a brighter future.
