Tet Holiday is nearly here, almost knocking at our door! While we have been busy getting bits and pieces of this year finished and ready to wrap up for an amazing Year of the Tiger, now is the time to think about and write down what we want to accomplish in the upcoming new year.
There is a historical tradition in Vietnamese Lunar New Year that shares the same spirit called Khai Bút – beginning the new-year by writing. This custom plays an important role in young and old alike, as it represents our expectation for a good year. Students enjoy this activity as they consider it a wish for good luck towards their achievements in school, and a reminder for them to keep going forward for good things up ahead.
Unfortunately, there might still be underprivileged children who are unable to enjoy this tradition to its fullest as they don’t have the means to go to school due to their family’s circumstances.

During this Lunar New Year celebration, saigonchildren would like to launch a campaign called “Khai bút đầu năm – the first writing of a year” as we believe that together we can do more than what it originally means. By giving a gift of schooling today, not only do we offer underserved students an opportunity to “pen a piece” about a successful year of study, but we also give wings to their education dreams.
