On the occasion of the cricket tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, on 03/27/2014 at RMIT University, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club from England has helped Saigon Hospitality students to become familiar with cricket and baseball, the sports that are less popular in Vietnam.

Warm-Up

Under the dedicated guidance of John, Tim and JJ (Jonathon), the children have enjoyed getting to know these two new sports. They rapidly knew rules and practiced bowling and batting with enthusisasm.

The children also had chance to play other sports such as football, badminton, Frisbee, ball toss and baseball.

Play football together

The guys from Gloucestershire County Cricket Club were so friendly, funny and sociable that the ice between them and the SCC’s children was broken easily. Soon after the soccer ball has been thrown, the boys were rushing out and playing football with Tim, John and JJ under the heaty temperature of 32oC-33oC. Particularly, JJ has joined the children in the Vietnamese folk games – “chơi U”. He was very excited and has made the children admired with the ability to quickly capture the rules as well as the eagerness while playing.

The ambiance became even livelier with the cheer of the children during the baseball challenge. The match went on with lots of laughter and joy for each goal scored, then a lot of pictures capturing good times spent together. Some children could communicate confidently in English with the guys. It was such a good memory for all Saigon Hospitality students that when the session ended, they couldn’t wait for the next play to come.

Good memories with Gloucestershire County Cricket Club

Thank Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, JJ, Tim and John, for not only teaching the children to play those new sports in Vietnam but also supporting each of them with shoes, hats, shorts, breakfast, lunch, transportation and sports equipment donation after training. You all have brought joy and fun to young people with difficulties (disadvantaged young people), who are participating in Restaurant & Hospitality course at SCC. We wish you success and look forward to seeing you again!
