Last June 5th, saigonchildren in collaboration with Premier Oil started the construction of Tam Ngai B primary school in Cau Ke district, Tra Vinh Province.
Cau Ke is one of the poorest districts in Tra Vinh. It is 45 km from the centre of the Province. 14.73% of its population is classified as poor. The economy there depends mainly on agriculture but the poor weather in recent years has made living conditions of people in Cau Ke more difficult.
The Tam Ngai B primary school site currently has 8 rooms, 5 of which were built a long time ago. There are 8 classes, who must share 5 classrooms, as a result, some of them cannot attend the full day school.

The old classrooms and other facilities of the school are deteriorating.

The playground is very dusty in the dry season and muddy in the rainy season.
With this project, Premier Oil sponsored the saigonchildren school building programme to re-build four classrooms and a playground for 170 children aged 6 – 11. The project will help these kids enjoy a fully equipped and healthy learning environment. In addition, 170 families whose children are studying at the school, all school teachers, the community in Tam Ngai Commune, and the local government will be also indirectly benefit from this project.

With 13 years of cooperation between saigonchildren and Premier Oil, Tam Ngai B primary school marks the continuing positive impact of this long-term, trusted relationship.
As a longstanding programme of saigonchildren, the School Building and Learning Environments Programme aims to construct or renovate kindergartens and primary schools, in order to bring a safe and effective learning environment to children in the most disadvantaged areas of Vietnam. Since 1992, our School Building Programme has built 198 schools, 534 classrooms and benefited 15,500 students across Vietnam.
