Huynh Hoa’s story

date_range2019-06-26

Huynh Hoa grew up in an impoverished home in a small commune in Long An Province. Her father was once a pig farmer but was unsuccessful, so he moved into motorcycle repairs. Hoa’s mother ran a small grocery store in the neighbourhood. The total monthly income of the whole family was around 4 million VND. This income barely covers their monthly living costs and does nothing towards their debt to local authorities of 12 million VND.

After graduating from grade 12, Hoa wished to study at university or college. Unfortunately, because of her difficult family situation, she had to let go of this dream. People tend to take for granted the luxury of moving from high school to further education, but in Hoa’s case, this move was unattainable. However, despite these struggles, she refused to give up. She decided to go to Ho Chi Minh City and undertake vocational training, in order to get a job and become financially independent of her family. Hoa went to Ho Chi Minh City, armed with a passion for change and self-development, and lucky for her, she found saigonchildren, and their support.

With an eager attitude towards learning, she has shown everyone her passion and dedication to the path she has chosen. She has been studying for more than 5 months at Nhan Dao Vocational Secondary School. Although she has not completed the Basic Vocational course yet, she was voted by the class to take the Local Skills exam on March 18, 2019. As a result, Hoa won the First Prize for ‘Women’s Hair’.

Ms Dang Tuyet Mai, Hoa’s teacher, she said that after the contest, Hoa will represent Nhan Dao Vocational Secondary School, taking part in the Ho Chi Minh City Skills Competition. After that, she will be trained further by the school, to become a teacher at the school in the future.

Hoa shared, “I want to express my sincere gratitude to my sponsors, teachers and Saigonchildren for supporting me and helping me to overcome my most difficult days. Back then, I was new to the city and they gave me the opportunity to continue studying so that I could become who I am today. “
