Dinh Van Tam, born in 1998, is a programmer with over a year of professional working experience. He and his friends are planning to start an IT company to bring their values closer to customers.

Tam’s hometown is in Tay Ninh. His father passed away early, Tam lives with his mother, older and younger brothers. The area where the family lives is quite empty and there is not much land, so his mother has to work as a hired hand to support the family. When he was in 11th grade, his family only had one source of income from his mother, making it very difficult to take care of the three brothers. However, he was fortunate enough to receive teachers’ help and was introduced to the saigonchildren’s scholarship.

“At that time, my mother had to afford for three kids to go to school, so it was harsh. Fortunately, I studied quite well, so my teacher suggested I to saigonchildren. Receiving the scholarship had supported me a lot in terms of tuition, food and motivated me to go to school” – Tam said.

During the period from high school to university, saigonchildren had accompanied and witnessed his efforts. Tam decided to study programming at the University of Food Industry, through the advice of a cousin. To be able to cultivate additional knowledge for the programming industry, not only did he learn from university, but he also studied different programming languages by himself. From that, Tam chose his most favorite programming language and expanded more knowledge about it, applying that to his work.

“School only teaches the basics, but this industry has many different fields. However, because I am passionate, at the beginning of the course, I also studied different types of programming languages. After choosing a suitable language, I will further expand and pursue it until I go to work.” – Tam said

During his schooling, Tam participated in a number of extra-curricular activities organized by saigonchildren. He made more friends from the summer camp in 2019. Besides, he also worked part-time in many places to earn extra income.

“The first 3 months, I worked as a waiter at a restaurant. Then, I worked for about 3 years in the post office, sleeping there every night shift. Working there is not too bad, I can work while studying, and with a salary, I don’t have to worry about anything.” – Tam shared

Currently, his life is more stable when he takes the position as a programmer for a company on the mobile app. When completing the graduation project, he and a friend caught the attention of a teacher, who is also the owner of the company Tam is working for. So he was recruited by the teacher immediately after graduation.

“I am working on two projects, one is about human resource management and the other is about market management for the State. I have developed this for 6 provinces already, only the interface is different, the internal structure is still the same. Currently, these application samples are still in the trial stage, so there is no charge of fee yet.” – Tam said

His intention is to spend some time improving his English and prepare for the future opportunity to work at foreign companies. Tam hopes that he can learn more from new foreign technology. He also plans to set up his own IT company and design the program to satisfy customer-specific needs.

Tam hopes the young generation continues to study hard, because only with knowledge and education can they develop their career and take care of their life and family.
