What a fantastic night of glitz and glamour! The 7th annual Saigon Summer Ball was filled with delicious dining, fine wines, great live entertainment and, of course, beautifully-dressed and generous guests.
Saigon Children’s Charity is pleased to announce that thanks to over 300 warm-hearted supporters, who attended our Saigon Summer Ball, we were able to raise over US$105,000 for SCC this year net of costs, an outstanding achievement.
To give an understanding of how we can use this amount, US$10,000 raised is able to:
A big thank you to Frasers Law Company, our Premier Partner, for once again for supporting this event. Thanks also goes out to Etihad Airways, our key sponsor as well as main sponsors Moet Hennessy, Benh Thanh Art & Frame, the Peninsula Hotel, Cathay Pacific Airways, Standard Chartered Bank, United Airways and Mandarin Oriental Hotels, along with the many, many other generous in kind- sponsors and donors who provided items for our Silent Auction and Raffle. We would also like to thank, Alain Cany, the Chair of Trustees and all the other SCC Trustees for their invaluable guidance and support.
The event took place in the Grand Ballroom of the five-star InterContinental Asiana Saigon and we were honoured to welcome over 300 guests dressed in an elegant array of finery, from black tie and ball gowns to Scottish kilts. The evening began with a lively champagne reception where guests could also view Live Auction items, bid for Silent Auction items and purchase golden tickets in the hopeof winning one of our exciting Raffle prizes.
After moving into the visually stunning Ballroom, decorated in black and gold, our guests dined on an exceptional 4-course gourmet dinner prepared by Chef Roberto and his team, accompanied by delicious wines supplied by Moet Hennessy. The ballroom created a feeling of magic and romance with every table beautifully decorated, lit in a soft purple glow and candle light. The dark walls were dotted with thousands of small illuminations that made it feel like an elegantly lit starry sky.
To add to this wonderful atmosphere we were treated to a fluid and beautiful dance performance from the Vietnamese dance group UDG (DanCenter) specially choreographed by John Huy Tran, and this this was followed by the harmony and voices of Anna Truong and My Anh, talented daughters of Vietnamese diva My Linh. At just 13 years old, My Anh gave an astonishingly mature performance before singing a lovely duet with her sister Anna.
Once dinner had been served, the ballroom was lit up for the exciting Live Auction, expertly conducted by Justin Gisz, Partner in Frasers Law Company. Our generous guests got actively involved in bidding for one of the six main items, so kindly donated for the event. The top selling item was donated by Key Partner Etihad Airways, two business class tickets to any Etihad destination worldwide, and this single item was knocked down for an outstanding bid of US$18,000. A simply stunning Tazanite and Diamond Ring donated by Julie Poli was sold for an amazing US$8500 and other great items included a Premium Hong Kong Experience, donated by the Peninsula and Cathay Pacific Airways, a five night stay in Baan Asan a private villa in KohSamui Thailand and a lifestyle holiday in New Zealand also donated privately. Finally, a strong and passionate portrait painted by ‘Nguyen Hai Anh’ and donated by Ben Thanh Art & Frame sold forUS$6000, a great result for SCC but also for the Vietnamese Art community.
Guests were also treated to a wide selection of interesting Silent Auction prizes including a bottle of Hennessy’s exclusive H250 Collector Blend cognac, 2 night stays at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hyde Park in London, and the InterContinentals in Saigon and Abu Dhabi, Jett bicycles, an official RWC2015 rugby ball signed by England hero Johnny Wilkinson, and a beautiful furniture piece from John Richard. The night provided some great bargains as well as several items reaching or surpassing their retail value.
The live entertainment then continued as guests were treated to both current tunes and popular classics by the energetic Filipino band ‘Chosen Band’ who not only got everyone on their feet but kept them dancing, followed by DJ An who made sure the revellers stayed on the dance floor until well after the official 0100 end of this wonderful Ball.
SCC would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers for all their hard work in setting up and running this amazing event, especially Christine Rosemann, Chair of the Summer Ball Committee and Renata Pio, ably supported by the outstanding efforts of SCCs own Fundraising staff. Together we were able to create another fantastic and successful Saigon Summer Ball, an event so important in raising the necessary funds to keep SCC programmes running smoothly. Thanks once again to the generosity of our wonderful sponsors, donors, guests and volunteers, SCC can continue to support Vietnamese children from disadvantaged backgrounds in getting into school, so helping to eliminate poverty through education.
