Last Saturday, 11th June, saigonchildren, together with our partner, delivered 112 emergency “COVID backpack” packages to 71 impoverished families in Go Vap and 41 in District 8, where many areas are under lockdown.
Most of the families receiving the relief package are facing financial difficulties, income sources are reduced, parents lost their jobs, children cannot continue their studies, even online because they cannot afford Internet devices. Mr. Hoang’s family from D8: “Before the outbreak coming back, my wife worked at the District 3’s Sports center, but cannot continue working anymore. Only I am now working a few days a week, but have to take care of the whole family.”
Understanding the urgency of the situation, not only in the lack of nutrition and food but also as the children are psychologically affected because they cannot go to school, cannot meet their friends, saigonchildren sent each family a package of rice, instant noodles, canned food, and seasoning, along with books and games for kids to ease some of their worries for the next few weeks.
Thanks to Fragrance Oils and many individual donors, the relief packages have reached the families in time, as a comfort and encouragement for them to overcome this situation as well as help our children reduce fear and stress during this epidemic season.
