On January 24, at the campus of Vocational Education and Regular Education School in Binh Chanh District, more than 280 junior high school students in Binh Chanh district took participated in a contest on the Career Orientation topic.
The contest is part of a career-oriented project for 9th-grade students in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training of Binh Chanh District, Center for Vocational Education and Regular Education, and sponsored by saigonchildren to help students learn how to seek career-related information to assess suitability and choose to pursue.
Sharing at the Opening ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi My Chau – Deputy Head of Education and Training Department of Binh Chanh District said: “Vocational training is not only for grade-12 students but now is also an important activity for 9th graders. The 9th Grade Career-oriented project includes 3 main topics: Self-understanding, Career Exploration, and Career Planning. ”
More than 280 9th grade students from 18 secondary schools were present at the site early. Students from Tan Tuc Secondary School shared that they came here to cheer on their home team, and eager to learn new things. As for the group of students from Nguyen Van Linh Secondary School who are very confident about their promising performance, they also share their career orientations: “I want to be an actor”, “I want to work in banking and finance”, “I want to be a flight attendant”.
After graduating from secondary school, students do not only have one option to go to high school but also vocational schools, intermediate schools, and colleges with a full range of career opportunities that match their interests and abilities. Also, on this occasion, representatives of vocational schools and colleges in the city also participated in the contest as advisors and judges.
Each team will have 10 minutes to present the content they have learned about their chosen profession in various formats. Some schools focus on presenting content, but some others get very creative when they create a drama to present the content in a fun and useful way. Some teams also perform onstage such as bartenders, hotel staff, actors,… visualize beautiful products.
Two first prizes belong to Vinh Loc A Secondary School with the performance about Bartender and Da Phuoc Secondary School with the presentation on Food Processing and Preservation Technology.
Through this project, saigonchildren would like to promote early career education in schools, so that they can promptly understand themselves and a suitable career to prepare the best for the future.
