On August 25th, 2018 Phu Can A Primary School in Tra Vinh province held the opening ceremony, featuring local authorities, representatives from saigonchildren, and representatives from Credit Suisse AG.
This August, 117 children from Phu Can Commune, Tieu Can District, Tra Vinh Province will have the opportunity to study in a safer environment. The school was completed after 8 months of preparation and construction as a collaborative project between saigonchildren, Tra Vinh province’s local authorities, the donors from the Saigon Summer Ball 2017 and representatives from different countries of Credit Suisse AG.
“The achievement we made today proves to be a positive result from the cooperation and unity between organizations and Tieu Can district authority” – said Ms. Nguyen Thi Vinh, Vice President of the People’s Committee of Tieu Can District.
Phu Can A Primary School has a total of 3 classrooms, each 64m2 wide. The facility also includes a large playground for students from 1st to 5th grades. In addition, the hallways, roof, and floor were also neatly tiled, replacing the old concrete and metal structures. Phu Can A Primary used to be heavily damaged; the lack of safety and space negatively impacted its students’ learning capabilities, especially in extreme weather.

“The great headteacher and teachers at this school can now share their knowledge and enthusiasm with children in a safe and comfortable environment. I am sure it will be a place of learning and happiness for all who pass through its doors.” – Mr. Damien Roberts shared in the ceremony
The completion of Phu Can A Primary makes it the 10th school renovation sponsored by Credit Suisse AG since 2008. This school is also sponsored by donors from The Saigon Summer Ball 2017 and a local fund. Throughout the last 10 years, 5 kindergartens and 5 primary schools in the regions of Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Dong Nai, and Tay Ninh have received Credit Suisse’s funds to remodel to the standards of the Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training. All projects were directed and organized by saigonchildren and supported by local authorities, donors from the Saigon Summer Ball 2017 and Credit Suisse AG, with the joint hope of creating an optimal educational environment for local children to learn and develop their abilities.
