As part of SCC’s life skills training, on 30th July 2015, the Vocational Training Project organised a discussion session on “Attitudes at Work”. The course was designed to bring a practical perspective of occupations, and employer’s requirements of new employees.
This session included a number of guest speakers from a variety of backgrounds, such as business, human resources and teachers, who shared their experiences with SCC students. The speakers have worked with SCC on a number of occasions and understood SCC’s approach towards their students. They informed the class about their employment history, experience in recruitment, and human resources management. Two of the four guest speakers had started their careers attending the very same vocational training courses earlier in their lives.
Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hien, Head of HR Dep.of Thao Tay Hair Salon System shared her experiences with the students | Mr. Tran Thanh Binh, a motorcycle shop owner shared experiences with students |
The guest speakers discussed, in front of the students, a variety of topics which the students were able to learn and apply to their future careers. Many practical and tricky situations in a workplace that new workers usually meet were covered in the session. These included learning to fit into a new working environment, working with new colleagues, unscheduled leave, being reprimand, unconfident of personal skills in the workplace, leaving a job without notification, etc.
Thanks to the informative discussions the guest speakers provided, the students were able to learn valuable lessons which will help them when they embark on their own careers in the future. The students really appreciated the guest speakers’ thoughts and saw just how important such vocational training courses are.
