On 13 Jun 2018, the Evaluation Seminar of the Career Orientation Activities for students in eleven secondary schools in Dist 8 of HCMC took place with full attendance by all of the schools’ representatives.
This seminar brings Phase 1 of training teachers in effective methods of career orientation for Grade 9 students to a close. This project is a part of Saigonchildren’s “Getting Ready for Work” program, which is designed specifically for students in their last year of secondary school.
These activities are implemented over two class days with a total of nine lessons in three different subject areas:

After the training, participating teachers were provided with instructions from trainers, given access to sample lesson plans, sample training on DVDs, and support from teachers who joined the previous training course. All the teachers reported that they highly appreciated the lesson plans and support, and that they are excited to use the applied map and other engagement techniques. Right after the training course, from 12 Dec to 30 Dec 2017, the first career orientation lessons were organized successfully, with the participation of 3,697 students, 78 teachers, and 88 classes. For these lessons, the schools prepared a package of career orientation materials for their students. Since the training course took place after semester exams, the students were able to focus fully on these activities and they appeared to be excited about the lessons.

To sum up Phase 1 of the project, the Evaluation Seminar on 13 Jan was an opportunity for Saigonchildren to listen to the participating teachers for their feedback on what went well, along with the difficulties that arose during the lessons. By conducting Evaluation Seminars after each phase of the program, Saigonchildren can monitor the project activities to ensure everything is going well and that the participants are benefiting to the fullest.
