“There was a moment when I wanted to talk to someone who used sign language, but I didn’t know how. Luckily, a friend nearby helped with the interpretation. That simple act, together with the chance to meet others and contribute a small part of my own effort, left me with a warm feeling and helped me understand more about resilience, optimism, and the simple joys of life.”
The Volunteer Day is part of the annual social activities that saigonchildren offers to beneficiaries of the Getting Ready for Work Programme, and this year it took place in early November.

The activity brought together nearly 30 young people currently studying at our partner vocational schools (including some who have already graduated and are now working). Together, they spent the day at the Vocational Training Centre for People with Disabilities and Orphans in Ho Chi Minh City. Participants were divided into small groups to support various hands-on tasks suited to their abilities, including:

Through this activity, participants had the opportunity to connect, share, and experience the values of love, empathy, and responsibility to themselves and the community around them. While some students joined in the morning and hurried back to the city centre to attend afternoon classes, and others expressed regret at being unable to participate due to last-minute personal commitments, all shared the hope that similar volunteer activities will continue in the years to come, allowing more young people the chance to take part.
