On March 4th 2020, saigonchildren and the local authorities held an opening ceremony for Hoa My 3 Primary School, hamlet 5 satellite site in Phung Hiep District, Hau Giang Province. This project was made possible by donation from our partner EZ Land, counterpart fund from local goverment, and land donation from a kind local, Mr. Dinh Van Hon.
Due to the decaying condition, the old classrooms were structurally unsound which present imminent danger to the students and the teachers at school. In addition, heavy rain during the rainy season would flood the whole school. Under such circumstances, the children felt uneasy during their daily schooling activities.
The new school offers a much better learning environment for the students with two spacious classrooms, a playground and a clean toilet toilet block. The students will no longer have to worry about weather disturbances when at school. Their parents can also have peace of mind knowing that their children are studying at a school that is safe and hygienic.
This is a co-funding project with the approximate budget up to US $67,263 which EZ Land contributes US$ 45,015 and the People’s Committee of Phung Hiep district puts in US$ 22,248. EZ Land’s vision is to provide the people of Vietnam with great quality housing they can afford, and now, in partnership with saigonchildren, they are further serving the people of Vietnam by bringing education to generations of children. The new classrooms and facilities will create better access to education for students as well as improve the teaching environment for the teachers for many more generations to come.
One day before the Opening Ceremony, 34 employees of EZ Land participated in a Challenge Day to put the finishing touches to the school including painting walls and planting trees. Moreover, they also decorated the playground with traditional Vietnamese game such as Hopscotch, Mandarin Square Capturing (Ô ăn quan) and matrix to enhance body balance, ability in calculating, creativity, and critical thinking for the students. Although all schools are still closed to prevent the contagion of Coronavirus COVID-19, we know that the students will be extremely happy to see this new learning environment when they return.
As a longstanding programme of saigonchildren, the School Building and Learning Environments Programme aims to construct or renovate kindergartens and primary schools, in order to bring a safe and effective learning environment to children in the most disadvantaged areas of Vietnam. Since 1992, our School Building Programme has built more than 200 schools, benefiting 20,000 students across Vietnam.
