Xuan Hoa 1 Primary school at Soc Trang province has long been deteriorating, negatively affecting the education of many children in the area. The whole facility is a temporary building in poor condition. The school has ten classrooms but currently six are deteriorating, and the other four cannot be used due to heavy damage. The building’s structure is also no longer solid and stable, presenting imminent danger to the students and the teachers while studying at school.

The substandard building conditions have caused many children to miss out on learning as there are not enough classrooms. The project to rebuild Xuan Hoa 1 Primary school is coordinated by saigonchildren with the hope of encouraging children to return to school and nurture their abilities in a fitting environment. This is one of the educational programmes organised by saigonchildren to enhance the local awareness of the importance of education, and to improve the standard of education in the area.

This project is funded by REE Corporation with counterpart funds from local authorities; coordinated directly by saigonchildren, with support from the local community. The goal is to replace the damaged classrooms with those of a higher-standard, includes seven new classrooms, plumbing and hygiene systems, a playground and an additional three old classrooms to be renovated. The project is expected to take three months. By the start of the new academic year 2018-2019, the new school at Ke Sach district will benefit 304 children from 6 to 11 years old, and 300-350 more children each year from now on.
