In July, Saigon Children’s Charity partnered with Mercedes-Benz Vietnam to renovate La Salle Tan Hung Charity School in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. The project aimed to renovate 5 classrooms and 1 common room, sponsor tables and chairs for the dining room, and sponsor utility bills and medication cabinet during the school year 2022 – 2023.
La Salle Tan Hung is a school of 150 underprivileged children from 1st to 5th grade. Many of the children are from immigrant families, not only do they not have the means but also the paperwork needed to study in a regular public school.
La Salle Tan Hung Charity School was established in 2000. After more than 20 years, the school’s conditions have deteriorated: cracking and sloughing walls, faded exterior paint, broken ceiling and furniture, etc. This quality reduction may significantly impact the student’s education.
On the 9th July and 10th July, over 60 employees from Mercedes-Benz Vietnam participated in painting the walls, decorating the classrooms and repairing old furniture.
After 1 month, La Salle School was newly renovated. With the financial support from Mercedes-Benz Vietnam, 5 new classrooms and 1 common room with safe and children-friendly structure were successfully built to replace the downgraded and unsuitable ones.
In addition, the project equipped inox tables and plastics stools for the dining room. The company also committed to sponsor electricity and water bills as well as first-aid boxes for the school in 10 months. Moreover, at the new school year opening ceremony, Mercedes-Benz Vietnam team awarded 150 sets of back-to-school gifts to all the students.
After this project, La Salle Tan Hung students will feel more empowered in their journey of education. Also, this will be a huge motivation for all full-time teachers and volunteers working and dedicating to the school.
La Salle Tan Hung Charity School renovation project is a part of saigonchildren’s School building and Learning environments Programme.
