On 23rd January, the learning-through-play method with LEGO Braille Bricks was introduced to teachers from Bình Thuận, Gia Lai, Tiền Giang, and HCMC, as well as members of our Special Needs Programme’s professional network.
The Braille system is undoubtedly a life-changing invention for the blind and visually impaired, and in recent years, and The LEGO Foundation has incorporated it into new products. For most participants working with children with special needs, this training was their first introduction to LEGO Braille Bricks, allowing them to gain a basic understanding of how to use them effectively in education.
Each brick features studs on top corresponding to a letter, number, or symbol of the Braille code, enabling children with visual impairments to learn through play. This interactive approach helps develop essential skills such as cognition, emotional expression, creativity, motor skills, and social interaction.
This training was organised by the National College of Education HCMC, funded by The LEGO Foundation, and coordinated by saigonchildren.
The following day, representatives from LEGO Vietnam and specialists from The Braille Program visited saigonchildren’s LEGO Club, a key component of our early intervention project. The LEGO Club follows a play-based therapy approach, supporting children with difficulties in social communication, interaction, developmental disorders, and emotional expression.
During the visit, specialists carefully observed the sessions and provided teachers with valuable insights on enhancing lesson content and activities which help children with special needs improve their cognitive, communication, and language skills.
