In December 2016, SCC organized general health checks, sponsored by Novo Nordisk, for almost 148 primary and secondary students supported by SCC’s scholarship programme in Tieu Can district, Tra Vinh province.
For nearly 25 years of success, SCC continuously tries to make education dreams of thousands of disadvantaged children come true. However, SCC has witnessed some children’s dreams going unfulfilled due to a variety of fatal illnesses. SCC will never forget the tears in Mai’s eyes (Tan Phu Dong, Tien Giang) every time she had to skip class, her source of daily joy, so that she could go to the hospital. Her illness and treatment held her back so that even after three years, she could not finish the first grade., threatening her dreams of a better future.
Over two years 2015 to 2016, the health check project has organized many health check-ups for students in Dong Nai, Can Gio, and Tra Vinh. Cases of illness and disease have been caught early, ensuring the children afflicted have received timely treatment.
Nervous faces waiting for their very first general health check-ups at school
Along with health check support, Mr. Omar Sherief Mohammad, Executive General Manager, and representatives of Novo Nordisk also gave gifts to the 148 students in attendance. They also visited the homes of children from special and difficult cirsumstances and provided gifts to the families.
Thanks to support from Novo Nordisk, SCC was able to hold more general health check-ups, resulting in the early diagnosis and detection of latent diseases and securing plans for observation and initial treatment. SCC hopes that all the students it supports can have a full and healthy childhood equal to their friends and peers, as well as the chance to stay in school.
