A year after fundraising started, three new classrooms at Phương Ninh Primary & Secondary School (Hậu Giang Province) have been completed and are ready for use from this November. The opening ceremony engaged the presence of in the presence of local authorities, project stakeholders, donors, teachers and over 60 beneficiaries on 26th November.
The ceremony unfortunately took place under the overcast sky, and soon n unexpected torrential downpour began. This turned out to be an excellent opportunity for the new classrooms to demonstrate their importance, serving as a safe haven for students gathering inside.
All the design and structure of new classrooms comply with the standards for school buildings set by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam. With sturdy walls and raised floors, rainwater no longer leaks or overflows into the classrooms. More importantly, the new roof means noise from the rain has decreased hugely, ensuring it doesn’t disturb teachers and children during their lessons.
Mr Damien Roberts, saigonchildren’s executive Director, shares, “Everyone who donated to make life better for these children is motivated by kindness, and the sense of responsibility to help make life better for others however they can. Dear children, many kind people made this new school building possible, and now you all have a very important job….to have lots of fun learning and playing here, and to be kind to your teachers and each other!”
This project is funded by contributions from Ms Corrina Lim and her friends, esteemed supporters of the Saigon Summer Ball 2022, and donations from Capital Group’s staff and corporate entities, along with local funding. At the opening ceremony, nearly 400 students at the school were also gifted with milk from the sponsor Vinamilk
