On June 4th, Saigonchildren provided a much-needed improvement to the learning environment for students of Thang My Hamlet Satellite Site of Hoa My 2 Primary School, with the generous sponsor from QSR, and the support from the local community and local authorities.
The school has five classes in three classrooms, all of them were built a long time ago with a basic structure. Due to the downgraded condition, the classrooms’ structure was broken and endangered the safety of the students inside. In addition, the whole school would flood during the rainy season. Under such circumstances, the children felt uneasy during their daily schooling activities. Therefore, the need for classrooms was becoming increasingly serious and the need for action to be taken was more urgent. With this project, the total estimated cost to build and fully equip the new primary school was US$ 75,404.
Families whose children are studying at the school, all school teachers, the community in Phung Hiep Commune, and the local government will also indirectly benefit from the project. The project includes building three classrooms and a playground, providing training about construction supervision to the Community Management Unit to equip them with basic skills and knowledge, running workshops regarding school maintenance in order to raise awareness among the teachers and children on the importance of school hygiene and equip them with the skills to keep the primary school in good conditions, and one “Challenge Day” event for volunteers from QSR to work on the construction.
Being a longstanding programme of saigonchildren, the School Building and Learning Environments Programme aims to construct or renovate kindergartens and primary schools, to bring a safe and effective learning environment to children in the most disadvantaged areas of Vietnam. Since 1992, our School Building Programme have built 198 schools, 534 classrooms and benefited 15,500 students across Vietnam.
