On the 25th and 26th Aug 2018, 30 university students of Saigonchildren Child Development Scholarship Programme hosted a summer camp for 83 disadvantaged children in Tra Vinh province. All children who joined the Camp are saigonchildren beneficiaries, ranging from primary to high school students.

This is an annual event organised by saigonchildren’s university students as a meaningful ending programme after many projects during the year. Each year, nearly 300 university students who are supported by saigonchildren gather and divide into groups to run different fundraising initiatives such as: selling rice paper, books, newspapers, etc.

All the students actively participate in the activities with the support of saigonchildren officers including: brainstorming, planning and organizing training, camps or fundraising events. This year, the students raised more than 21,000,000 VND from various activities from Mar – Jul 2018. The fund was used to buy 83 desks for children in Tra Vinh.

The Summer Camp was held in Ngai Hung Secondary School, Tra Vinh over 2 days, the 25th and 26th Aug 2018. All campers had an opportunity to join creative activities and share about their dream. The most touching moment was when all of them sat together, shared stories and helped each other to solve their difficulties. More than 100 students aged from 6 to 22 years old felt like they were brothers and sisters in one family.

Every year, after trips like this, saigonchildren can see positive progress from our children. They all feel more confident to be motivated and supported by their ‘older brothers and sisters’ to overcome obstacles and achieve good results in both their studies and their own life. Especially after the trip, students who organize the events are enlightened in kindness and compassion before continuing their next path after graduating.
