On October 12, 2012 the workshop on “Sharing the Situation of Education for Children with Disabilities in HCMC 2012” was held by WWO team. The workshop gathered 61 participants coming from governmental and non-governmental organizations, including the steering committee for Education for Disabilities (Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City); section of Education of various districts and communes; public and private special schools, several mainstream schools where inclusive education is applied; institutions where children with disabilities are cared; local organizations, mass associations, INGOs that are working with children with disabilities.
This was a good occasion for people from a variety of sectors working for the best development of children with disabilities to get together to share information about the current situation of education for children with disabilities in the current context of Ho Chi Minh City; orientations, opportunities, and challenges. The participants were also updated about projects that supported children with disabilities in the field of education that were funded by Saigon Children’s Charity (SCC).
Mr Paul Finnis – Director of SCC updated WWO projects in the workshop
After a successful series of training sessions on reproductive health for visually impaired children, HASPDO continued its project to provide similar training sessions to hearing impaired children. Besides getting knowledge about functions of reproductive organs, about puberty, about how to calculate a menstruation cycle and so on, children were also provided with skills to protect themselves from being abused. This first-ever project on reproductive health has been and is being highly appreciated by children with disabilities.
