VIRTUAL EVENT: MENTAL HEALTH CARE FOR CHILDREN DURING PANDEMIC

date_range2021-07-11

During 2021 pandemic, many parents are feeling pressured, even overloaded, because they both have to work remotely at home, take care of housework, and have to ensure the care and education of their children. However, from the children’s perspective, it is also important to realize that they may be experiencing an equal amount of stress when they are away from friends and school. Their routines are disrupted, while many children still have to ensure online learning, and most of the children are directly or indirectly affected by the stress resonating from their parents.

In response to the questions like how much time to spend with your child every day, observing and talking about how your child is feeling, or how to encourage them… last weekend, July 10, saigonchildren organized a roundtable discussion on mental health care for children during the pandemic.
The discussion session was very lively with the participation of 3 guests such as Master of Psychology Le Ngoc Bao Tram, Education Manager June Le, and Entrepreneur Thai Van Linh; with the direct participation of more than 40 parents via the Zoom platform. The programme was also live on saigonchildren’s Facebook channel, reaching thousands of parents with similar concerns.

Understanding nature, and reforming negative emotions is not an easy skill even for adults, and it is even more difficult for children. Not to mention, children at a young age can’t even name their feelings yet. All of these lead to changes in the child’s behavioral manifestations such as irritability, anxiety, insecurity, or excessive dependence on parents for daily activities (separation crisis). Parents through this session had the opportunity to be answered to their concerns about care and play with their children, as well as learn from the tips and experiences of the speakers.
