G.B. was born with autism. He will be turning 6 this year, yet he has barely any grasp of basic language and communication. He cannot form sentences or concentrate on tasks, and he is often confused and doesn’t know how to show affection like other children. Even though he loves his mother, he can only express himself by yelling or pinching her. He also struggles with personal hygiene.
On top of this, G.B. was born into a very poor family. His parents decided to separate not long after he was born, so his mother had to raise him singlehandedly. They are now living with his grandmother and his uncle, who is mentally ill and has to be taken care of. All four of them live in a small attic.
Autism, if dealt with early through special education, is not a problem for a child’s development. However, as G.B. did not have that kind of support, he now lacks the ability to communicate and interact with others. His mother had to stop working to stay home and take care of him. No mainstream school would accept G.B., but his family do not have enough money to enrol him into a school for children with special educational needs.
For autistic children, not getting the right intervention and suitable guidance in the first few years of their lives will have a major impact on their chances in life. If they haven’t formed the ability to communicate, control their emotions, concentrate or express their feelings, they cannot go to school, work like others and live a stereotypical life.
With 28 million VND, we can open the doors to a specialised education for G.B. and others like him. Now, G.B. will get the proper education that he so desperately needs, allowing him to grow up well and have a brighter future, contributing to the same society that you live in.
