Vo Hoang Son was born in 2007. He lives with his maternal grandparents and his half brother (they do not share the same father). Son’s father left him when he was only 2 months old and hasn’t ever returned. Son’s mother remarried and moved to Malaysia. However, her husband suffers with kidney failure and has to be treated with dialysis twice a week. Son’s mother works at a small restaurant, but her low wage is not enough to cover Son’s expenses back in Vietnam.
Son has had epilepsy since he was 6 and he has to take medicine daily, as well as get re-examinations every three months. Five months ago, Son’s medication had to be terminated due to lack of finances to cover the costs. Both of Son’s grandparents are elderly and they do not have the capability to work. His grandmother suffers with arthritis, which causes pain in her spine and hands. His grandfather was diagnosed with bladder stones and had to have a surgery just two months ago. This surgery alone has left them with little to no money.
Despite these difficult circumstances, Son still goes to school and tries his hardest with his studis. He loves Vietnamese Literature and dreams of becoming a doctor so he can help many young children like himself. However, in his current condition, Son is at risk of many health complications that could prevent him from continuing his studies if not treated properly.
Son’s situation desperately calls for immediate help and financial aid, so that his grandparents can get him the medicine he needs, ensuring his well-being and ability to continue his studies.
