Vo Hoang Son was born in 2007. He lives with his maternal grandparents and his half brother. Son’s father left him when he was only 2 months old and hasn’t ever returned. Son’s mother then remarried and moved to Malaysia. Sadly, her new husband suffers from kidney failure and has to have dialysis twice a week. In order to attempt to cover her expenses, Son’s mother works at a small restaurant, but her low wages aren’t enough to cover Son’s expenses back in Vietnam and her husbands treatments.
Son has had epilepsy since he was 6 and he has had to take medicine daily, as well as get re-examinations every three months. Five months ago, the costs of Son’s medication became too expensive and his treatments had to be discontinued. Both of Son’s grandparents are elderly and they, therefore, cannot work. His grandmother suffers from arthritis, which causes pain in her spine and hands, and his grandfather was diagnosed with bladder stones and had to have surgery just two months ago. The surgery has had a heavy impact on their finances.
Despite these difficult circumstances, Son still goes to school and is earnestly invested in his education. He loves Vietnamese Literature and dreams of becoming a doctor so, in the future, he can help children in his own position. However, in his current condition, Son is at risk of several health complications that could prevent him from continuing his studies if they are not treated properly.
Son’s situation desperately calls for immediate help and financial support, so that his grandparents can get him the medicine he needs, ensuring his well-being and ability to continue his studies and grow up to be a doctor.
