Thanh Thao is the youngest child in a family of four and is in sixth grade in high school. She is always hard-working and has received several certificates for being an excellent student. Thao and her third-grade sister have been living with their grandparents since she was just one, in a rented house in Can Gio.

Her parents and two other siblings live in Phu Quoc and don’t keep in touch with them often. Her grandparents are almost in their 80s. Even though they are elderly, they still try to earn money, making fabric shoes (which earns them 35,000 VND per day). Thao’s grandfather sometimes catches crabs and snails in the fields and sells them in order to keep food on the table for his grandchildren. The house that they’re living in costs them 600,000 VND a month to rent, and it has very poor living conditions, with walls made of leaves, a thin, metal roof and a floor made of unpaved cement.

Thao’s grandparents want her and her sister to finish their studies and have a good up bringing, but they are unable to ensure this, due to their poor health and financial situation. Moreover, since Thao and her sister’s household is registered in Tien Giang, they were deemed unfit for local support from the school for disadvantaged children.
With just 24 million VND, we can help up to 5 children like Thao and her sister. With this money, they can continue going to school, as well as be supplied new textbooks and school materials for a whole school year.
