Thùy – One of the most long-staying students at Thang long School

“We live only once, and once is enough if we choose the right path in life and make it meaningful.”

Phương Thùy surely is a memorable name for the teachers and students at Thăng Long English and Vocational Training School, not only because of her long-term connection with the school – almost 10 years – but also because of her admirable academic success.

The first time Thùy came across her “second home”, Thăng Long, was at the age of 7, when she attended an art class taught by Ms. Thủy. After 5 years of dedication to art, she had to stop to focus on her work in school. Thùy shares, “Even though I’m no longer pursuing my dream of the arts, the experience I’ve accumulated during that time have helped me develop the skills needed for learning, such as attention to details and creativity.”

As she got older, Thùy began to understand the importance of learning a second language, especially when recognising her shyness in communication was due to her modest English skills. At that point, she thought of Thăng Long school, where not only art but also English and IT classes are provided free of charge, to gain her confidence in foreign languages to allow her more opportunities in education and future career.

“Aside from studying English, especially verbal skills, I was able to practise many other soft skills at Thăng Long. I am incredibly happy to have attended those classes as the teachings are very practical and necessary for my life. Moreover, I had the opportunity to do volunteer work, which took me to many places I’ve never seen – sharing unique experiences with my teachers and peers; all unforgettable memories.”

Now, Thùy has completed her English course with excellent results beyond her own expectations, scoring 955/990 in the TOEIC exam. With what she had accumulated in all those years of hard work learning a foreign language, Thùy successfully acquired a part-time job – as an English tutor, no less – whilst studying at university.

During the recent year-end celebration at Thang Long school, Thùy shared: “We only live one life, but if we live it meaningfully, only one is enough; so, don’t waste your own time”. Perhaps because of this, learning is something Thùy never allows herself to stop. Currently, she participates in an IT class offered at Thăng Long school, with hopes to obtain an MOS certification to improve her competitiveness in the future job market; and within this year, Thùy wants to pursue her dream of securing an internship related to her major of Finance and Banking.

“The learning environment at Thăng Long school was great for me to develop both my knowledge and values. Along with the teachers who are teaching and working at the school, I will never forget what my dear friends and I experienced, learned, and shared together. We will forever be a family, I’m sure of it.”
