Meeting Lan Anh: Lettering Artist with a PowHERful Heart

date_range2024-03-05

Known affectionately as Lan Anh Ng, she is currently a graphic designer and lettering artist based in Saigon. In addition to her freelance work, Lan Anh has left her mark on several of saigonchildren merchandise items, including our coffee mug and sticker set

The relationship between Lan Anh and saigonchildren began through An, an alumna and dedicated volunteer of saigonchildren. An shared her positive experiences with the organisation and encouraged Lan Anh to join the PowHERful project as an artist to design the campaign’s sticker set, used to encourage girls and young women to break gender stereotypes and become the best of their potential. This sparked Lan Anh’s interest and desire to participate in a meaningful project that brings value to the community.

“I believe the motivations in the PowHERful project embody pure values, without embellishment and authenticity.

As a primary source of inspiration, Lan Anh’s daily life fuels her creative work. From childhood memories to stories from friends and family, Lan Anh finds ideas for her artwork in the small details of life. This has helped Lan Anh create artworks that are both creative and meaningful. Sometimes, all it takes is keen observation and listening for Lan Anh to analyse various aspects of her life. Additionally, she maintains her design inspiration by reading books and newspapers.

Sharing the idea behind the PowHERful lettering project, Lan Anh focusing on expressing positive feelings and confidence in women’s abilities. Throughout the process, Lan And is inspired by the women around her, especially her mother, who always maintained a positive and proud attitude. This inspired her to create artwork with inspirational and optimistic messages to empower women.

Lan Anh’s designs on the coffee mug and sticker set are part of saigonchildren’s latest package, the Girl Power Box, which also includes a bandana and a handmade flower. The box can be a great gift for girls and women this coming International Women’s Day or any other day.
